Yes, the COVID-19 RT-PCR test must be taken 72 hours prior to boarding a flight to Canada.
Travelers must undergo a second COVID-19 molecular test on arrival at Canada airport.
They will also be given an At Home Specimen Collection Kit at the airport.
Using this kit, they must take a third COVID-19 molecular test on day 10 of their quarantine. They will have to register for the test in advance, depending on which airport they arrive in. Please check different rules that apply to different airports.
Information about the exact date when the 10-day test must be taken will be provided at the airport.
Even people who have been vaccinated must undergo the above tests.
Passengers transiting through Canada to other international destinations are exempted from these tests, provided they remain in the secure terminal area in the airport.
Passengers who have already suffered COVID-19 and have recovered, but are still testing positive, will be permitted to enter Canada with a positive test result obtained at least 14 days but not more than 90 days from the scheduled departure of a flight to Canada.
Having a ‘quarantine plan’ is mandatory for everyone entering Canada, without which entry shall be denied. More details here.
Travelers entering Canada must stay in a hotel for 3 nights at their own expense, while they await their on-arrival test results. For hotel bookings and a list of Government-authorized hotels.
